IT’S PEEL SEASON! TIME TO SHED THE DEAD (SKIN)

Chemical Peel Face Treatment with Retinol Serum.

Fall and winter are great times to have a series of chemical peels because this is the time of year we are outdoors less and often have less sun exposure.  At Spindrift Aesthetics, the chemical peels utilized are PCA SKIN© liquid peels.  These peels are blends of exfoliating acids applied in layers to achieve optimal results.  Our chemical peels are customizable and chosen based on your skin condition and clinical results desired.

ALL ABOUT CHEMICAL PEELS

The PCA SKIN liquid blended peels allow a progressive, not aggressive, approach to skin concern corrections.  Aggressive peels can lead to worsening of skin conditions, such as more pigmentation, acne breakouts, and inflammatory complications.  The PCA SKIN blended peels all contain varying amounts of exfoliating acids to target skin concerns such as dark spots, acne, redness, fine lines and wrinkles, and uneven skin texture or scarring.

Chemical peels don’t have to be aggressive to get results and the degree to which you peel is not related to results.  Individual skin types react differently to chemical peels, for example, while someone with resilient skin may tolerate the maximum layers of a peel, someone with less resilient skin may only be able to tolerate 1-2 layers of the same chemical peel.

Light chemical peels penetrate the uppermost layer of the epidermis, the stratum corneum, to help improve the skin’s appearance on a superficial level.  This type of peels is great from minor issues, for patients with little to no downtime and is great for someone who is new to chemical peels.  These peels are great to help control and reduce blemishes, brighten skin, and control breakouts.  Side effects are temporary redness, zero to mild peeling, and sensitivity that resolves in 1-2 days.

Medium depth chemical peels penetrate deeper below the epidermis into the papillary dermis to treat deeper skin concerns that cannot be resolved with lighter chemical peels.  These peels can help to reduce acne scarring, reduce hyperpigmentation or brown spots, and help reduce fine lines and wrinkles.  Sensitivity and side effects to medium depth peels vary based on an individual’s skin condition.  Our peels approach is very safe and predictable by utilizing the PCA SKIN blended peels.  These peels are self-neutralizing and layered based on your skins response thus making these peels very safe and with predictable results.  With a medium depth peel you can expect redness and skin sensitivity for 24-48 hours after peel applications with no to medium skin peeling.  We strongly encourage the use of our post-procedure kit as directed by the healthcare provider to optimize recovery and results.

Deep chemical peels penetrate int the lower part of the dermis, known as the reticular dermis.  This chemical peel is reserved for patients who have had medium depth peels in the past and have deeper scarring, wrinkles, and discoloration that have not resolved with medium depth peels.  Some deeper peels require sedation and should only be performed by a physician or qualified healthcare provider.  These peels results in dramatic peeling and require a considerable amount of downtime.  Deep peels are not recommended for those with darker skin complexions.

HOW OFTEN DO I NEED A CHEMICAL PEEL?

Based on your individual skin condition and overall goals, the frequency of chemical peel application can vary.  Normal maintenance chemical peels can be performed every four weeks.  Acne prone treatments are often performed every two weeks and then once a month.  Aging skin or skin with dark pigments are every three weeks and then monthly thereafter.  The overall goal is to get everyone on a once-a-month maintenance schedule.

In order to achieve and maintain results, a customized skin maintenance program is strongly recommended.  Just as a car requires maintenance to run properly, our skin also requires maintenance over time.  Once we achieve your goals with a chemical peel series, the PCA SKIN daily care products contain powerful antioxidants, peptides, MMPi’s, and other advanced actives for targeted skin conditions.  As we age our cell turnover begins to slow and the PCA SKIN professional treatments help to increase the natural skin cell turnover.  Our skins natural production of collagen and elastin slow over time and a targeted treatment plan helps to keep your skin looking youthful and healthy.
