Everything You Need to Know After Your Professional Chemical Peel.
At Spindrift Aesthetics in St. Pete, Florida, we believe your treatment doesn’t end when you leave our office, in fact, it’s just beginning. Professional chemical peels work by encouraging controlled exfoliation and skin renewal, revealing healthier, smoother, and more-toned skin beneath the surface.
Whether you’ve received a superficial chemical peel, a customized PCA SKIN peel, or a series of corrective treatments for acne, pigmentation, melasma, or sun damage, following your aftercare instructions is essential to achieving beautiful, healthy, and long-lasting results.
This guide explains how chemical peels work, what to expect during recovery, your healing timeline, aftercare recommendations, frequently asked questions, and when to contact our office.
-
A professional chemical peel uses carefully selected exfoliating acids o accelerate skin cell turnover and stimulate healthier skin regeneration. Unlike harsh over-the-counter exfoliants, chemical peels are customized to your skin type, concerns, and goals.
Chemical peels can help to improve:
Sun damage
Hyperpigmentation
Melasma
Acne
Acne scars
Fine lines
Uneven skin tone
Rough skin texture
Dull skin
Enlarged pores
Overall skin brightness
At Spindrift Aesthetics, every peel is personalized based on your skin assessment and long-term restoration plan.
-
Chemical peels create a controlled injury wihin the outer layers of the skin, stimulating the body’s natural repair process. As damaged skin cells are shed, new healthier cells replace them, resulting in smoother texture, improved pigmentation, and healthier overall skin quality. Contrary to popular belief, visible peeling is not required for an effective treatment.
Our goal is healthier skin, not simply more peeling.

Warmth
Mild skin sensitivity
Days 2-4

Not every patient will visibly peel.

-
During the First 24-48 Hours:
Avoid:
Heavy exercise
Excessive sweating
Hot tubs/saunas/steam rooms
Direct sun exposure
Heat can increase inflammation, prolong redness and delay healing.
Do NOT Pick or Peel
Allow peeling skin to shed naturally.
Picking or prematurely removing the peeling skin may increase the risk of irritation, scarring, infection, or post-inflammatory hyperpigmenation.
Skin Care
Use only gentle products recommended by your provider.
Temporarily avoid:
Retinoids/retinol/adapalene/tretinoin
Glycolic acid
Salicylic acid
Benzoyl peroxide
Vitamin C serums
Physical exfoliators
Scrubs
Waxing
Hair removal creams
Resume active skincare only when instructed by your provider.
Moisturize Frequently
your skin may feel dry or tight during the healing process. Use a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer as recommended to support barrier recovery.
Sun Protection
Sun protection is one of THE MOST important parts of your recovery.
Wear a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher every day.
Limit direct sun exposure, wear a wide-brimmed hat when outdoors, and avoid tanning during the healing process.
Freshly treated skin is more susceptible to UV damage and post-inflammatory pigmentation
-
My skin isn’t peeling. Did my peel even work?
Yes.
Not all professional chemical peels produce visible peeling.
Many corrective peels work at a microscopic level by accelerating skin renewal and improving skin function without significant visible exfoliation.
When can I wear makeup?
If your skin feels comfortable and there are no open areas, makeup can generally be applied the day after treatment or as directed by your provider.
Can I wash my face?
Yes. A gentle cleanser with lukewarm water and avoid agressive rubbing. Pat your skin dry with a clean towel.
Can I exercise?
Avoid strenuous exercise and excessive heat for 24-48 hours, or as instructed by your provider.
How many chemical peels will I need?
Many skin concerns didn’t appear overnight, nor can we correct them in one treatment. Many skin concerns respond well to a series of treatments. Your provider will develop a customized treatment plan based on your skin type, goals, and response to treatment.
