SkinPen® Microneedling Recovery Guide

SkinPen® is the first FDA-cleared microneedling device designed to improve the appearance of facial acne scars and support overall skin rejuvenation through Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT).

Using sterile, single-use needles, SkinPen creates thousands of controlled microscopic channels in the skin. These micro-injuries stimulate the body's natural healing process without removing the outer layer of skin.

During the First 24 Hours

Your skin barrier is temporarily more permeable, making gentle care especially important.

Skin Care

For the first 24 hours, use only the products recommended by your provider.

• Vitamin C serums (unless specifically recommended)

• Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs)

• Beta hydroxy acids (BHAs)

• Exfoliants

• Scrubs

• Benzoyl peroxide

• Fragranced skincare

Resume your normal skincare routine gradually as directed by your provider.

Sun Protection

Daily broad-spectrum SPF is essential following microneedling.

Freshly healing skin is more susceptible to UV damage and post-inflammatory pigmentation.

Avoid unnecessary sun exposure during the healing process.

Hydration

Drink plenty of water and use a gentle moisturizer to support barrier recovery and optimize skin healing.

Collagen Takes Time

Although your skin often appears brighter within days, collagen remodeling continues for several months.

Trust the healing process and complete your recommended treatment series for the best long-term results.

When will I see results?

Many patients notice brighter skin within one week.

Collagen production continues for 4–12 weeks, with ongoing improvement over several months.

Can I wash my face?

Yes.

Use a gentle cleanser and lukewarm water beginning the evening of treatment or as directed by your provider.

Avoid aggressive rubbing.

Can I wear makeup?

Avoid makeup for at least 24 hours, or until your provider advises it is appropriate.

Can I exercise?

Avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sweating, and heat exposure for approximately 24 hours.

How many treatments will I need?

Most patients benefit from a series of three to six treatments, depending on their skin concerns and treatment goals.

Maintenance treatments help support long-term collagen production and skin health.

Can SkinPen® be combined with other treatments?

Yes.
